Nissan Qashqai Makes An Appearance At The 2017 CIAS

Toronto’s annual Canadian International Autoshow is underway and sitting on a stage in Nissan’s display section is the 2017 Qashqai.

Oddly enough, the Monarch Orange Qashqai that was originally on display was replaced by a Nitro Green one later on in the day even though both of them had AWD and came in the offered SL trim. Luckily, we were able to take a look inside the orange one before Nissan blocked it off from the public.

As far as ergonomics go, there’s a good range of adjustment to the driver seat and those bolsters are high enough to keep you planted without encroaching into your hip space. Volume controls area easily accessed by your thumbs, but depending on how long your fingers are the other buttons will need some reaching. Those sitting in the rear will have plenty of leg and head room as my 5 foot 6 frame had no problems stretching out a bit and there’s that extra space under the driver’s seat if needed. The seats are comfortable in the back with substantial cushioning and the center seat back pulls down to reveal two cup holders.

For what you’re paying, the Qashqai’s cabin materials do not feel cheap at all. There’s plenty of soft touch plastics used on the dash and door panels and the piano black trim used throughout the dash helps break up the monotony of a grey interior. Accent stitching can be found on the door arm rests, seats and steering wheel. Knowing how connected the average buyers are to their electronic devices, the Qashqai comes with a USB and 12 V socket along with an AUX port under the center console.

Our only complaint about the vehicle was of the rear view being slightly blocked off by the rear seat headrests, but is honestly isn’t that bad unless someone sits in the middle.

The Qashqai should be on display at the Nissan exhibition from the 17th to the 26th and for those who won’t be there, perhaps the album below will tie you over until it goes on sale.

the least nissan could have done is make them fold down but what some owners can do is remove the headrests before taking off. spending a couple minutes to remove them is well worth the extra visibility provided, but over time you'll get used to how close you are to certain objects.

Removing headrests isn't really that hard and you can throw them in the trunk until someone sits in the back. They do serve a very important purpose and that height is probably needed to prevent passengers from getting whiplash in case of a crash. Doens't really bother me all that much.

That really doesn't seem like an issue that should even be mentioned to be honest as it's such a minor set back. If it really bothers you that much, take em' out. Call it a day.

That Nitro Green on the other hand... now that's off-putting. But I am glad that the material aren't cheaped out on and we get soft touch materials
