Nissan Qashqai vs Honda HR-V vs Mazda CX-3
The Nissan Qashqai was pitted against the newer Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 but it still managed to come out on top with it's 1.5 diesel engine. All three models were the most frugal variation.

-touchscreen not very user friendly
More expensive than Qashqai
Mazda CX-3 1.5D 105 Sport Nav 3rd Place
-good response to steering
-upright no twisty roads
-most lavishly equipped
-lots of road noise
-cramped rear passenger seats
-average interior quality
-most expensive of the three
What I like about the CX-3 is that although interior quality isn't that great, it does have a pleasing design. Then there's performance which is great for someone who wants something a bit zippy for those times when they need it.
It's ultimately down to what the buyer is looking for in a car and what they're going to use it for.

The Qashqai may be new to North America, but it isn't new overall. Is there any danger that it will just not seem new and fresh to consumers?
I think the low price is definitely a good move on Nissan's part though. Being the most affordable can get you quite a long way.
This type of vehicle is all about serving needs, as long as it does that and Nissan has done the market research to see it fills a need in the market....it will do well.
Yup, the differences are minimal from what I can see so it's up to what the buyer needs.
The Rogue comes closest to this and it's a mid-sized SUV, so slotting right under it as a compact helps to make sense of this.
Considering that the Juke is very small, it isn't so far-fetched to see the need for something between the Rogue and the Juke. The Juke may be a CUV, but if it were a car, instead of a utility vehicle it would be a city car with the size that it is.
The Juke is quite small too, good for those starting a family with one child, maybe two, but even then it has limitations, the Quashqai can better market to that same crowd for a reasonable price.
