Nissan Announces NA Spec Qashqai Production Plans

Today Nissan announced that they would be using excess production capacity available in Japan to manufacture the Qashqai for the North American market.

Nissan's announcement is somewhat unsurprising following last months announcement by CEO Carlos Ghosen that Nissan would be making moves to boost production from its Japanese factories, taking advantage of the weaker Yen.

The Qashqai will join the Rogue at Nissan's Fukuoka plant, starting from "around next spring". Nissan plans to build in the ballpark of 100,000 Qashqais for the USA and Canada. That may or may not be enough to satisfy North American demand. Europe currently gobbles up some 300,000 units annually from their UK facility.

The latest announcement pushes domestic production (Japan) of Nissan vehicles to 1.1 million, meeting their 2016 target.

Ah interesting, I was under the impression that they would build the Qashqwai for NA in NA at the factory that builds rogues for NA. Must of missed the japanese capacity announcement..cheers!
If they have extra capacity may as well use it. I have a feeling it will be a big seller in North America. I mean the segment itself is on fire.
Did they come out with a North America release date yet?

If building starts in the spring I would expect them mid to late summer...
If late summer it could be sold as a 2017 model since that's just about the time when they change over year models.

most likely, I havent heard a specific model year mentioned, but that time frame fits...
With the shows coming up at the end of this year we might hear something, at this point we just need to be patient.
I would expect to hear stuff by the end of the year. Mostly they will just give some details. Its not like they are esigning a whole new vehicle here it is just about expanding production and developing supply chain and delivery.

It will probably be that and a combined with confirming some things we've been hearing about it, things that might or might not make it into the version we'll be getting.
